Aidan O'Brien Sets Sights on Cheveley Park Stakes with Lake Victoria

Fairy Godmother will not run again this season, however.

Aidan O'Brien is considering allowing Lake Victoria to compete for consecutive Group One victory in the Juddmonte Cheveley Park Stakes at Newmarket this Saturday, following the announcement that Royal Ascot winner Fairy Godmother will not race again this season.

Lake Victoria, who has maintained her unbeaten streak after winning the Moyglare Stud Stakes at the Curragh, may drop back in distance from seven to six furlongs just two weeks after her last outing on the Rowley Mile.

Fairy Godmother, who last competed in her impressive victory at the Albany Stakes during Royal Ascot, had been expected to represent Ballydoyle this weekend. However, O'Brien confirmed she has been put away for the winter.

Paddy Power has made both fillies joint favourites at 5-1 for next year’s 1000 Guineas.

O'Brien told the PA news agency on Monday: "Fairy Godmother is finished for the season; we just decided to leave her off for the rest of the year. As for Lake Victoria, we were thinking we might bring her back to six furlongs for this going to the Moyglare."

Lake Victoria is among 14 fillies entered for the Cheveley Park Stakes, with O'Brien also confirming the participation of Bubbling, Heavens Gate, Merrily, and Truly Enchanting.

The likely favourite is Babouche, trained by Ger Lyons, who has won three races in a row, including a Group One victory over O'Brien’s Whistlejacket in the Phoenix Stakes at the Curragh.

Additionally, Francis-Henri Graffard has supplemented the impressive Chantilly winner Rayevka, and Ed Walker is preparing to saddle Lowther Stakes winner Celandine.

O'Brien is a dominant force in the entries for the Juddmonte Royal Lodge Stakes, responsible for 10 of the remaining 18 contenders. Acapulco Bay is the lowest-priced among them.

Charlie Fellowes will hold high hopes for his Ascendant Stakes winner Luther in the one-mile Group Two, while Ralph Beckett’s Convivial Maiden winner Angelo Buonarroti is another contender to watch in what promises to be an informative event.
