Alflaila Expected to Shine in Juddmonte International Set-Up

Strong gallop would suit the three-time York winner next week.

Alflaila is poised to make his return to his preferred venue for the Juddmonte International at York. Trained by Owen Burrows, this five-year-old, who is both owned and bred by Shadwell, has competed at the Knavesmire on four occasions, achieving victory in his last three starts there.

His accolades include a win in the Strensall Stakes and two victories in the Group Two York Stakes, the latest of which occurred during his most recent race, where he triumphed by half a length in a race characterized by a slow pace.

This victory marked the seventh of his career, which has faced interruptions due to injury, but he now aims to elevate his performance in what promises to be a highly competitive renewal of this prestigious Group One event.

"He's preparing well for York, looking in excellent condition and is a remarkably attractive horse," Burrows remarked.

"He had a lengthy absence from racing at the beginning of the season, and Jim (Crowley) suggested that he might improve following that run at York.

"The race was quite tactical, so I believe he performed admirably to secure the win; the Juddmonte appears to be developing into a race that will be run at a strong pace, which will be advantageous for him.

"York is also a suitable track for him, as the long straight allows him to build his speed, given that he does not accelerate instantly.

"He requires some time to gather momentum, but he is a very genuine horse and consistently finishes strongly."
