Bellum Justum's Victory in America Opens International Doors

Bellum Justum eyes more international glory after Kentucky Downs triumph, with Middle Eastern options on the horizon and high hopes for a stellar four-year-old season.

Following his lucrative victory in America last weekend with Frankie Dettori, further international opportunities will be explored for Bellum Justum.

Making his three-year-old debut, Andrew Balding's colt triumphed in the Blue Riband Trial at Epsom, later finishing seventh in the Derby and securing placements in the Hampton Court at Royal Ascot as well as the Gordon Stakes at Goodwood.

Impressive performances ensured the Sea The Stars colt's journey across the Atlantic as a strong contender for the Nashville Derby. He lived up to expectations by delivering a comprehensive victory at Kentucky Downs, earning over GBP 800,000 in prize money for owners King Power Racing.

"We felt we were likely better than the American horses, but without a direct form comparison, it’s always uncertain, and travel can be unpredictable," said King Power's racing manager Alastair Donald.

"Thankfully, everything went smoothly despite a slight delay at the start, and Frankie is very dependable in major races. He secured a good position, and we believed we had a strong chance to outlast the others."

"It was rewarding to see a well-executed plan succeed for a substantial prize. There are only two races in Europe with bigger payouts, the Arc and the Derby! I anticipate more horses will be travelling next year based on this success."

Looking ahead, Donald commented: "He has had a demanding season, being involved in the Derby campaign, which has kept him active for an extended period."

"Since he performs well on firm ground, we'll likely give him some rest and consider Middle Eastern races in January/February."

"It’s unfortunate he wasn’t at his best in the Derby, as he underperformed there, but he’s a resilient, commendable horse we believe will improve even further at four."

"We foresee more enjoyable and lucrative opportunities for him. He’s likely to flourish with travel, especially given his preference for fast ground and distances between a mile and a quarter to a mile and a half."
