Big Evs Aims to Break Record in Nunthorpe Stakes Rematch

Big Evs Eyes Redemption: York Awaits Thrilling Nunthorpe Stakes Showdown with Asfoora
Mick Appleby has suggested that York's track record may be under threat as Big Evs aims to overcome the disappointments of last year in the Coolmore Wootton Bassett Nunthorpe Stakes.
Despite having previously secured a victory over the same course and distance earlier this season, the only blemish in Blue Point's son's otherwise stellar two-year-old campaign occurred in this race, where he managed to finish ahead of just two competitors.
Despite that singular subpar performance, Big Evs has had an otherwise outstanding career on the track, and he heads back to York riding the high of his exhilarating King George Stakes victory at Goodwood.

'He bounced back from Goodwood in excellent shape and is currently in great form,' said Appleby.
'He's positioned in stall 14 out of 14, and I'm uncertain if that's advantageous or not. Whether it will benefit him or not, I'm unsure at this point.
'It's a different track and different circumstances compared to Goodwood. We'll see what happens, but I believe it will be a very fast race. If the ground remains quick, I wouldn't be surprised if the track record is broken.'
Tom Marquand, the rider of Big Evs, is confident that his mount is prepared to overcome last year's memories as they gear up for the third round of the colt's rivalry with Australian star Asfoora.

In fact, the 26-year-old believes the Knavesmire offers the ideal setting for Big Evs to secure the advantage in the sprinting contest that has provided a compelling storyline for the division.
'Asfoora got the better of us at Ascot, and honestly, if we were returning there, I'd be somewhat intimidated because it's a challenging five furlongs,' Marquand noted as he discussed the British Champions Series event.

This is our grand final, and everything has gone smoothly so far—hopefully, that trend continues.

In addition to the dependable Believing, trained by George Boughey, they enhance an already competitive field which also features dual Royal Ascot victor Bradsell, who secured a third-place finish last year.

The competition at Deauville was strong, though not at Group One level. We are optimistic he will perform well. He’s positioned in stall three, so we’re hopeful for a good pace nearby and minimal rain.
