Constitution Hill Undergoes Wind Surgery Ahead of Season Return in Fighting Fifth Hurdle

Nicky Henderson’s superstar is set to reappear in the Fighting Fifth at Newcastle.

Trainer Nicky Henderson has revealed that star hurdler Constitution Hill underwent wind surgery as he prepares for the upcoming National Hunt season. The unbeaten seven-year-old, who has won all eight of his starts, is set to return in the Fighting Fifth Hurdle at Newcastle on November 30.

Constitution Hill's last campaign was curtailed by health issues, including a respiratory problem that kept him out of the Champion Hurdle at the Cheltenham Festival and a suspected colic that prevented a spring comeback at Punchestown. However, Henderson shared an optimistic update on the horse’s recovery and form after his summer break, confirming the minor surgery was aimed at ensuring his top condition for the new season.

Henderson also confirmed that Constitution Hill has been working towards his reappearance and is “in particularly good form,” though still carrying some weight from his holiday. Alongside him, Jonbon, another stable star, is gearing up for the Shloer Chase at Cheltenham on November 17, after which he’ll aim to defend his title in the Tingle Creek Chase.

The Seven Barrows handler’s update came during National Racehorse Week, where Constitution Hill, Jonbon, and retired champion Altior were all part of a day enjoyed by racing fans.
