Coto De Caza Triumphs in Cornwallis Stakes Thriller
Coto De Caza narrowly claims victory over Grande Marques in an exciting finish at the Newmarket Academy Godolphin Beacon Project Cornwallis Stakes, defying the odds and challengers.
Coto De Caza narrowly edged out the Irish contender Grande Marques to clinch the Newmarket Academy Godolphin Beacon Project Cornwallis Stakes. Under the training of Simon and Ed Crisford, the Sioux Nation filly had previously been the favourite but finished third in the Listed Harry Rosebery at Ayr. She was among only three competitors in this Group Three event who raced on the near side, led by the swift River Seine, and with over a furlong remaining, Harry Davies propelled Coto De Caza (13-2) into the lead.
On the far side, Fozzy Stack's Grande Marques, who had come close in the Firth of Clyde at Ayr, broke away from the larger group and posed a significant challenge. The two were nearly separated by the width of the track, but only three-quarters of a length divided them at the finish line. Kullazain exceeded expectations by finishing third despite his 25-1 odds, while the favorite, Midnight Thunder, did not perform as anticipated.
