Cromwell Poised for Success at Guinness Kerry National with Flooring Porter and Perceval Legallois
Trainer mounting dual challenge on Listowel highlight.
Trainer Gavin Cromwell brings a formidable duo to the Guinness Kerry National at Listowel on Wednesday, with Flooring Porter and Perceval Legallois set to challenge in the €200,000 feature race.
Flooring Porter’s Return to Form The popular Flooring Porter, a two-time Stayers' Hurdle champion, made a winning debut over fences at Cheltenham last October. After returning to hurdles and securing second place in the 2023 Stayers' Hurdle, the gelding switched back to chasing, though his recent Killarney run in July left much to be desired. However, Cromwell remains optimistic about Flooring Porter’s chances at Listowel, saying, "Flooring Porter seems in great form. We're happy with him and the ground should be ideal."
Cromwell highlighted that the left-handed track will be advantageous for the horse, adding that the team has been targeting this race for a long time. With everything falling into place, the trainer is hopeful Flooring Porter will deliver a strong performance.
Perceval Legallois Seeks Redemption Despite a less-than-ideal eighth-place finish in the Galway Plate, Perceval Legallois also commands attention in Wednesday’s race. Cromwell noted that the 7-2 favorite was hampered by an awkward start and some unfortunate jumps but performed admirably overall. With a cleaner run this time, Cromwell believes the gelding can make a serious impact: "Hopefully he has a good chance... The more rain that comes, the better for him."
Both horses are well-prepped for the challenge ahead, and Cromwell’s contenders are expected to be major players in this prestigious event.
