That performance stands out as an anomaly in an otherwise stellar on-track career, and Big Evs returns to York with significant momentum following his exhilarating victory in the King George Stakes at Goodwood.
In fact, the 26-year-old believes that Knavesmire is the ideal venue for Big Evs to secure an advantage in the sprinting contest, adding an intriguing storyline to the division.
'Asfoora defeated us at Ascot, and if we were returning to that track, I believe I'd be quite apprehensive because it's a challenging five furlongs,' Marquand explained ahead of this British Champions Series event.

'We're pretty excited to get up there and have been eagerly anticipating York throughout our entire preparation. This is our grand final, and everything has gone well so far. Hopefully, that continues.'
'There is no doubt she is in excellent condition and performing at her peak; it's the best I've ever seen her, and that usually translates to strong performances. This was evident at Goodwood, and I believe she's slightly fitter for this race, so I feel we are exactly where we need to be.'

'The Big Evs team, including the owners and their trainer Mick, are truly wonderful people,' added Dwyer.
'We had the chance to share a drink with them after the race at Goodwood, offering both our congratulations and commiserations. I'm looking forward to reconnecting with them and hoping we get the opportunity to turn the tables this time.'
Defending champion Live In The Dream set the pace, delivering a fairy tale success for trainer Adam West and jockey Sean Kirrane 12 months ago. Returning to the Knavesmire in pursuit of more heroics has remained a top priority on the 2024 wish list.
Adding to the depth of the contest is the consistent Believing, trained by George Boughey, alongside dual Royal Ascot winner Bradsell, who finished third in this race a year ago.
Archie Watson's standout contender made a triumphant return after nearly a year off the track at Deauville earlier this month, and connections are optimistic about another strong performance.
'I've talked to Archie, and he confirms that the horse is in excellent condition,' stated Oliver St Lawrence, racing manager for Fawzi Nass of Bahrani owners Victorious Racing.
Hopefully, he can perform well. Hollie (Doyle) was very pleased with him at Deauville and felt he had regained his form.
'The opposition at Deauville was strong, though not quite at Group One level. We are optimistic he can perform well. Being drawn in stall three, we hope there will be sufficient pace around him, and that the weather stays dry.'
Ed Bethell's Regional is another Group One winner in the mix. Adding to the competition are Starlust, trained by Ralph Beckett, and Clarendon House, trained by Robert Cowell, who both have proven success at this course and distance, bringing valuable Knavesmire form to the table.
