Democracy Dilemma Clinches Nail-Biting Victory in William Hill Beverley Bullet Sprint Stakes

Robert Cowell’s charge holds on in photo finish on the Westwood.

Democracy Dilemma narrowly held on to secure a thrilling win in the William Hill Beverley Bullet Sprint Stakes, showcasing his stamina and speed in the Listed feature.

Trained by Robert Cowell, Democracy Dilemma (8-1) and stablemate Clarendon House had contrasting fortunes from the start. While Democracy Dilemma, ridden by Tom Eaves, blasted out of the gates, Clarendon House was left behind due to a slow start.

By halfway, Democracy Dilemma had established a commanding lead, with Emaraaty Ana struggling to keep up and the rest of the field seemingly beaten. However, Hollie Doyle coaxed a strong finish from Albasheer, who closed rapidly.

As the horses crossed the line, it was a photo finish, with Democracy Dilemma just managing to hold on by a nose.

Eaves shared his thoughts with Racing TV: "He's very tough at the business end. Given the lack of pace in the race, making the running suited him. I was given an easy lead, and for a horse with so much speed going up a hill, he handled it well."

"I thought I’d held on but didn’t want to be too confident until I knew for sure. An easier race might suit him, but with minimal pace today, his racy nature helped him excel. It’s a great race to win, and I’m grateful to the connections for the opportunity."
