Dubai Millennium Voted into Qipco British Champions Series Hall of Fame

Brilliant colt lit up races like the Dubai World Cup and Prince of Wales’s Stakes.
Dubai Millennium, one of the most iconic racehorses in Godolphin's history, has been inducted into the prestigious Qipco British Champions Series Hall of Fame following a public vote. The legendary horse, trained by Saeed bin Suroor for Godolphin, emerged victorious in a poll that included other racing giants such as Giant’s Causeway, Montjeu, and Daylami.
Initially named Yaazer and trained by David Loder in his early career, Dubai Millennium went on to become a dominant force on the track, winning nine of his 10 races. His only defeat came in the 1999 Epsom Derby, where he finished a disappointing ninth behind Oath. Despite this setback, he quickly rebounded, securing major victories in some of the world’s most prestigious races. His impressive record includes wins in the Prix Jacques le Marois, Queen Elizabeth II Stakes, Dubai World Cup, and Prince of Wales's Stakes at Royal Ascot.
Godolphin’s managing director, Hugh Anderson, highlighted the special place Dubai Millennium holds in the hearts of those at the stable, especially His Highness Sheikh Mohammed, who considered him his favorite racehorse. “Among many other outstanding contenders, Dubai Millennium occupies the unique position of being said to be His Highness Sheikh Mohammed's favourite racehorse,” Anderson said.
Anderson reflected on the impact Dubai Millennium had on Godolphin and Dubai’s racing legacy. “His career and legacy shaped Godolphin and epitomized the spirit of Dubai. Winning the Dubai World Cup, the race he was named for, in such a dominant fashion was truly exceptional. His victories at the highest level, including the Prince of Wales's Stakes at Royal Ascot, solidified his status as a great.”
Dubai Millennium's influence extends far beyond his racing career. His stallion son, Dubawi, is now one of the most influential sires in the world, with his grandsons also making a significant impact on future bloodlines. “Twenty-three years later, his presence lives on through his world-leading stallion son Dubawi and his many grandsons that have become such a powerful influence on the breed of the future,” Anderson added.
Dubai Millennium will be officially inducted into the Hall of Fame during a ceremony on Champions Day at Ascot, set for October 19, honoring the enduring legacy of this remarkable racehorse.
