Elite Status and Inisherin lead the Betfair Sprint Cup sweet 16

Sheikh Mohammed Obaid-owned duo are favourites for Haydock Group One.

After both Inisherin and Elite Status were included in the stacked field of 16 that was announced for the race on Saturday, owner Sheikh Mohammed Obaid will have a strong hand in the Betfair Sprint Cup at Haydock.

Kevin Ryan's Royal Ascot hero Inisherin is back after an outstanding victory in the Sandy Lane Stakes earlier in the season. The two are battling it out at the top of the betting lists and bringing elite sprinting form to the table.

Karl Burke has three victories this season: last year's fourth Swingalong, recent Deauville scorer Spycatcher, and Elite Status, which aims to complement his two Newbury victories this term.

After overcoming a setback that prevented him from running five furlongs at Goodwood, Jasour will race for Clive Cox, and Shouldvebeenaring, the runner-up from the previous year, will try to make a stronger impression for Richard Hannon and Middleham Park Racing.

The most prominent of those not declared is Lake Forest, but William Haggas will still be entered in the race with champion Unequal Love and Chipchase Stakes hero Montassib.

Although Kinross was defeated by Montassib at Newcastle, Ralph Beckett's mainstay will have to wait for his opportunity to reverse the result because he is also not present. He and Lake Forest are probably going to the Park Stakes at Doncaster the following week.

Art Power winning at Ascot last October

A bit further down the list comes Tim Easterby's Art Power, who is aiming for the season's first win, and Mick Appleby's returning Annaf, who makes his first appearance of the campaign.

His connections are hoping for some rain on Merseyside given he hasn't raced this season on his usual soft ground, when he won the British Champions Sprint Stakes in October.

Alastair Donald, racing manager for owners King Power Racing, stated, "Unfortunately, the north is not getting the rain that the south is getting for the next couple of days, but I think it will be fine for him to run."

"Even though Art Power is usually priced quite insultingly, he consistently performs well at high prices, and perhaps he will again on Saturday.

"He has been running well the entire year and has never once lost ground. I'm hoping he'll get it eventually, perhaps at Ascot at the end of the year.

"It's not going to be quick on Saturday, so he'll likely run, but any rain would be preferred."

Ireland is the destination for Adrian Murray's juvenile Bucanero Fuerte, Jessica Harrington's Givemethebeatboys, and Ken Condon's Moss Tucker, all of whom won Group One.

Vadream by Charlie Fellowes, Kind of Blue by James Fanshawe, and Flora of Bermuda by Andrew Balding, which were added to the competition on Monday for GBP 20,000, round out the strong field of competitors for the Group One award.
