Gordon Elliott showcases his unparalleled talent in the Bar One Racing Troytown Handicap Chase with Stuzzikini’s thrilling victory, marking an incredible seventh win in this prestigious race, delighting fans and connections alike.
Gordon Elliott has once again showcased his exceptional skills in the Bar One Racing Troytown Handicap Chase, achieving his seventh win in this esteemed race, this time with Stuzzikini. Even after a disappointment with American Mike earlier in the day, Elliott’s keen judgment of talent shone through as Stuzzikini produced an exhilarating performance under the guidance of Gavin Brouder, securing a commanding victory.
Elliott had a strong presence in the race with nine entries in an 18-horse field, but it was Brouder and Stuzzikini who captured the spotlight. Earlier, Jack Kennedy seemed poised to make a decisive move on American Mike, as the horse advanced to the front four out. However, as the race unfolded, his challenge lost momentum, causing him to drop back and lose his place in the competition.
At the same time, Stuzzikini (20-1) was charging toward the finish. As the competitors neared the last fence, the eight-year-old gelding, under Elliott's training, moved ahead decisively, leaving Lucid Dreams and Yeah Man behind by four and 15 lengths, respectively.
Elliott expressed his delight following the race, providing a concise yet perceptive evaluation of his horse's triumph. 'Fantastic! I backed him on television yesterday and mentioned he had a chance,' Elliott stated. 'I always thought he was a horse that holds back a little, a bit difficult at times. However, today he discovered an extra gear, and Gavin delivered an excellent ride.' Elliott also noted the absence of Danny Gilligan, who had been forced to miss the race due to a fall. Brouder, filling in for the injured jockey, truly excelled, further enhancing his emerging reputation.
This victory represented a significant milestone for Elliott, who has now achieved an impressive seven wins in the Troytown. “Winning seven Troytown races is unbelievable,” he remarked, emphasizing the extraordinary nature of this accomplishment within his career.
A gleeful Brouder expressed his astonishment at Stuzzikini's stamina after the final jump, stating, “I was amazed at how well I was moving from the back of the last to the finish line. I couldn’t stop smiling!” His happiness was clear, particularly considering the bittersweet nature of his ride.
Francis Foran, co-owner of Stuzzikini with VCS Versatile Coating Specialist Ltd, encapsulated the moment beautifully. "This is our first horse and it feels magical! What an incredible day; I almost stumbled as I left the stands! Our dream has finally come true," Foran declared, as the triumph made their aspirations a reality.
The triumph of Stuzzikini not only reinforced Elliott's supremacy in this competition but also confirmed his reputation as one of the most shrewd trainers in the sport. Meanwhile, Brouder's remarkable performance on this significant stage is bound to create new opportunities for the skilled jockey moving forward.
