Fallen Angel Aiming for Prix de l'Opera After Strong Return in Matron Stakes
Karl Burke’s top-class filly is set to step up in trip for the Prix de l’Opera.
Fallen Angel, the talented filly trained by Karl Burke, is set to target the Prix de l'Opera at Longchamp after an impressive comeback in the Matron Stakes at Leopardstown. After a 111-day absence, the daughter of Too Darn Hot showed her quality by finishing a close second, just a length behind Porta Fortuna.
A Stellar Juvenile Career As a juvenile, Fallen Angel enjoyed a standout season, winning the Group One Moyglare Stud Stakes at the Curragh and the Sweet Solera Stakes. However, her three-year-old campaign had a shaky start when she finished eighth in the 1000 Guineas at Newmarket despite being the 100-30 favorite.
Back to Form Fallen Angel quickly regained her form in the Irish Guineas, storming to victory under Danny Tudhope at the Curragh. However, a setback sidelined her for a few months, and she returned in the Matron Stakes under new ownership by Wathnan Racing.
Eyes on Longchamp After her strong runner-up finish at Leopardstown, connections are excited to step her up in distance. Richard Brown of Wathnan Racing confirmed the filly’s next target: “We were thrilled with her run. James Doyle felt stepping up in trip would suit her, so we’re pointing her towards the Prix de l'Opera.”
With a step up to 10 furlongs, Fallen Angel will be looking to showcase her class once more in Paris in early October.
