Fallen Angel’s Next Chapter: Classic Winner Prepares for Matron Stakes Comeback
Filly remains on course to run in Matron Stakes.
Classic Winner Fallen Angel Joins Wathnan Racing Ahead of Matron Stakes Return
Wathnan Racing has acquired Classic winner Fallen Angel for an undisclosed sum, adding a new chapter to the exciting career of the Group One-winning filly. Trained by Karl Burke, Fallen Angel made headlines as a juvenile after her stunning victory in the Moyglare Stud Stakes, followed by a decisive win in the Irish 1,000 Guineas at the Curragh in May.
Her rise to stardom, however, faced a setback earlier this year. Originally scheduled to compete in the prestigious Coronation Stakes at Royal Ascot, an injury kept the three-year-old off the track, and she hasn't raced since. Now, as she gears up for her much-anticipated return in the Matron Stakes next month, Fallen Angel will sport the renowned old gold and peacock blue silks of Wathnan Racing.
Bred by Steve Parkin's Branton Court Stud, the filly previously raced under Parkin's Clipper Logistics, but her move to Wathnan Racing signals fresh ambitions for the talented horse. Richard Brown, Wathnan Racing's adviser, couldn’t hide his enthusiasm for the acquisition, stating, "She's a tremendous athlete, already a dual Group One winner, and we're very excited to see what she can do in the months and seasons ahead."
The partnership between Burke and Wathnan Racing has already tasted success this season, with standout victories by Leovanni in the Queen Mary Stakes and Shareholder’s triumph in the Norfolk Stakes, both at Royal Ascot. Now, all eyes are on Fallen Angel as she prepares for her return to the track, ready to add more accolades to her impressive resume.
Fallen Angel's journey is one of promise and perseverance. From her glittering Group One wins to the challenges posed by injury, her story encapsulates the emotional rollercoaster of top-level horse racing. Her new association with Wathnan Racing breathes new life into her future prospects, and fans will eagerly watch her return, hoping for even more success in the months to come. In a sport where the highs are euphoric and the lows can be crushing, Fallen Angel’s resilience makes her one to root for.
