Fantastic Moon Aims to Shine in 154th Grosser Preis von Baden
Last year’s German Derby winner gunning for more Group One glory.
Fantastic Moon will look to surpass his sire's performance in the 154th Grosser Preis von Baden on Sunday. Trained by Sarah Steinberg, the colt is a progeny of Sea The Moon, who finished as the runner-up in this prestigious race in 2014.
Last season, Fantastic Moon followed in his father’s hoofsteps by securing victory in the German Derby at Hamburg. His three-year-old campaign also featured a second-place finish in the Group One Grosser Dallmayr-Preis, a win in the Prix Niel, and a subsequent appearance in the Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe, where he finished 11th.
This year, after a runner-up spot in a Listed race at Hoppegarten and a disappointing run in the Prix Ganay, he rebounded with a victory in the Group Two Grosser Preis der Badischen Wirtschaft at Cologne. Despite another second-place finish in the Grosser Dallmayr-Preis, his form has been solid leading up to this Group One challenge.
In the Grosser Preis von Baden, Fantastic Moon faces five rivals, including English-trained Dubai Honour, known for his international success under the training of William Haggas.
Liberty Racing’s Lars-Wilhelm Baumgarten, who owns Fantastic Moon, commented: "We have good ground here in Baden-Baden, and with the summer weather, it's ideal for him. The field is competitive, with a colt by Alderflug named Narrativo also in the race. Dubai Honour is a formidable opponent, but we’re hopeful for a strong performance from Fantastic Moon and aim to secure a victory in this historic race."
