Classy filly could now target Sun Chariot and Queen Elizabeth II Stakes.
Tamfana, owned by David Menuisier, is targeting the Sun Chariot following a shrewd victory at Sandown in the Atalanta Stakes.
After finishing second in the 1000 Guineas on her second attempt as a three-year-old, the filly was twice advanced in distance, demonstrating her great potential.
First, competing over a distance somewhat longer than ten furlongs in the Prix de Diane at Chantilly, the bay finished third despite seeming to hold on well for a narrow loss of three-quarters of a length.
She next increased her distance to a mile and a half in the Grand Prix de Paris, but it was perceived that Tamfana did not make the journey this time, even though her fourth-place finish did not bring her into disgrace.
After regrouping, connections decided to go back to a mile on August 31 at Sandown, where their filly was favored 13-8 by Oisin Murphy to compete in the Group Three Atalanta.
She proved that her decision to reduce her distance and her position at the top of the market were well-founded as she easily won by two and a half lengths from Ralph Beckett's Doha.
In preparation for the Sun Chariot, Menuisier was between staying at a mile or going back to 10 furlongs for the Prix de l'Opera. It appears that he will go with the former course for Tamfana's next race, maybe the Queen Elizabeth II Stakes on Qipco British Champions Day at Ascot.
"She's come out of the race very well, she hasn't had a hard race and is in good form," the jockey stated.
"It was a relief; it was crucial to win the race and use it as a springboard for future success.
"She is obviously a very quick filly and has some very good form, so it felt important to win with her."
"I think it makes more sense to keep her over a mile as we speak, so we'll probably go for the Sun Chariot and maybe the QEII if she comes out of the race well."
