Goldikova Among New Inductees to Racing Hall of Fame on British Champions Day
Top miler hailed along with IJF pioneer Jack Berry.
The remarkable mare Goldikova will be one of the latest inductees into the Racing Hall of Fame during Qipco British Champions Day. Trained by Freddy Head and ridden by Olivier Peslier throughout her career, Goldikova achieved an extraordinary record, winning 17 of her 27 races, with 14 of those victories at the prestigious Group One level.
Bred and owned by the Wertheimer brothers, Alain and Gerard, Goldikova was a dominant force in the world of mile racing. She secured a record four Prix Rothschild titles, as well as two victories each in the Prix d'Ispahan, Prix de la Foret, and Prix du Moulin. Her influence was not confined to France, as she claimed major wins in the UK, including the Falmouth Stakes and Queen Anne Stakes at Royal Ascot.
However, her most enduring legacy comes from the Breeders' Cup Mile, where she won three consecutive titles, a record that still stands. In her final career start, Goldikova narrowly missed a fourth win in the race by just a length.
The Wertheimer brothers expressed their pride in Goldikova’s achievements:
“We are very touched and honoured by the upcoming induction of our champion Goldikova into the Hall of Fame. Winner of 17 races, including 14 Group Ones, she is the only horse to win the Breeders' Cup three times in a row. Having her statue at our farm, a permanent photo at Deauville's racetrack, and now this induction into the English Hall of Fame, means so much to us and all involved in her career.”
Also joining the Hall of Fame is Jack Berry, the driving force behind the Injured Jockeys Fund. Berry’s work has been invaluable to the welfare of his fellow jockeys, earning him a place alongside the likes of Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Khalid Abdullah as a Special Contributor.
Dubai Millennium, another racing legend, will also be recognized following a public vote, solidifying his place in racing history alongside these exceptional figures.
