A key element of the proposal is the rescheduling of the Group 1 Thousand Guineas to coincide with Caulfield Cup Day in October, aimed at boosting its status and attracting a more competitive lineup. The Sir Rupert Clarke Stakes, which was moved last year in an attempt to extend the carnival into November, will return to its traditional September slot. These changes are intended to sync with the natural pace of the racing calendar and better accommodate the timelines of trainers, owners, and breeders.
Kanga stated candidly, 'The former MRC committee made mistakes and overlooked the insights of experts. There is a consensus among prominent breeders and owners that the Thousand Guineas is currently scheduled four weeks too late. By rescheduling it to coincide with Caulfield Cup Day, we will be able to draw the finest fillies from the Flight Stakes, facilitating a smooth progression towards the VRC Oaks or Empire Rose Stakes, while also allowing horses sufficient time to prepare for their autumn campaigns.'
