Porta Fortuna Eyes Matron Stakes Glory Ahead of Possible Breeders' Cup Tilt

Filly set to return from a short break, with Breeders’ Cup bid on connections’ minds.

Donnacha O'Brien's talented filly Porta Fortuna is set to make her return in the Group One Coolmore America "Justify" Matron Stakes at Leopardstown on September 14, as part of her preparation for a potential trip to the Breeders' Cup later this year.

The daughter of Caravaggio has enjoyed a stellar season, narrowly missing out in the 1000 Guineas before clinching major victories in the Coronation Stakes at Royal Ascot and the Falmouth Stakes at Newmarket. Following a brief mid-season break, Porta Fortuna will now aim for her third consecutive Group One victory at the Irish Champions Festival.

"She's in good form and worked very nicely this morning," said O'Brien. "Everything is going to plan so far, and we're hoping the ground stays good."

Beyond the Matron Stakes, the filly's connections are considering options like the Virgin Bet Sun Chariot Stakes at Newmarket in October. However, a primary focus remains on the Breeders' Cup at Del Mar in November, with O'Brien weighing whether to head straight to California depending on how Porta Fortuna fares at Leopardstown.

If she performs well, the American-owned star could skip Newmarket and head into the Breeders' Cup fresh, although the Sun Chariot remains an option.

Excitement builds as Porta Fortuna looks to continue her incredible form and cement her status among the top fillies in the division.
