Rachael Blackmore to Take Time Off After Neck Injury at Downpatrick
Gold Cup and Grand National suffered a fall at Downpatrick last week.
Rachael Blackmore, the celebrated jockey and reigning Gold Cup and Grand National champion, will be absent from the saddle for the next few weeks after suffering a neck injury in a fall at Downpatrick on Friday. The incident occurred while riding Hand Over Fist, a horse trained by Denis Howard, during a competitive handicap chase.
Blackmore has enjoyed a strong start to the season, currently tied at the top of the jockeys' championship with 23 winners alongside fellow jockeys Keith Donoghue and Sam Ewing. However, this injury will now force her to take a break from racing.
Niall Cronin, head of communications for the Irish Horseracing Regulatory Board, confirmed the news, stating, "Following a fall at Downpatrick on Friday, Rachael Blackmore has sustained a neck injury and will not ride in the coming weeks while she undergoes rehabilitation for her injury."
Fans and colleagues alike will be wishing her a swift recovery as she takes the necessary time to heal.
