Ramatuelle Aims for Breeders' Cup Mile Triumph
Ramatuelle, guided by Christopher Head and co-owned by NBA legend Tony Parker, gears up for a momentous challenge at the Breeders' Cup Mile, aiming to emulate the success of the iconic Goldikova in California.
Ramatuelle is poised to carry her family's hopes as she targets glory in the Breeders' Cup Mile this Saturday in California, following the legacy of the legendary French mare Goldikova. Under the training of Freddy Head, Goldikova mastered the eight-furlong event, winning it three times in a row from 2008 to 2010, and placing third in her final showing at Churchill Downs in 2011.
Now, Christopher Head, the son of Freddy Head, aims to recapture a similar magic with Ramatuelle, who has demonstrated remarkable potential this season, highlighted by a commanding victory in the Prix de la Forêt. Co-owned by NBA Hall of Famer Tony Parker, the filly faces a significant challenge against 2000 Guineas winner Notable Speech at Del Mar, as she attempts to end Charlie Appleby's recent winning run in the event.
Following an impressive victory over seven furlongs on Arc day, Ramatuelle is set to return to her favored mile distance. Head is optimistic about her chances, highlighting her advantageous inside draw and strong turn of foot as key elements in her favor. 'Everything is all right with Ramatuelle,' he remarked, expressing confidence in her stamina and ability to perform excellently over distances between seven furlongs and a mile.
Reflecting on the challenges faced this season, such as changes in ownership of various horses, Head expresses gratitude for the support from the Wertheimer brothers, saying, 'I'm very proud to train for the Wertheimers.' With the legacy of Goldikova as inspiration, Christopher Head aims to begin a new chapter of success at the Breeders' Cup.
