Ramatuelle Withdrawn from Breeders' Cup Mile Due to Veterinary Advice
French ace scratched from Del Mar contest following veterinary advice.
Ramatuelle, the renowned French filly trained by Christopher Head and co-owned by NBA Hall of Famer Tony Parker, has been pulled out of the Breeders' Cup Mile based on veterinary advice. This decision is a disappointment to the team, who had high hopes following her remarkable victory in the Prix de la Foret at ParisLongchamp.
The withdrawal statement, shared on X, expressed their deep disappointment: “We are deeply disappointed that Ramatuelle has been withdrawn from the Breeders' Cup, especially with the anticipation surrounding her as a leading contender in this prestigious event.” Despite her excellent condition and recent training performance at Del Mar, the team acknowledged the frustration surrounding the decision.
The statement further clarified the reasons for the withdrawal, noting, “Even though Ramatuelle's PET Scan report indicated 'no definitive major concern for breakdown was identified,' it revealed signs of bone remodeling. This is typical in three-year-olds, but the decision was made to exercise an abundance of caution and withdraw her from the race.”
Christopher Head spoke about the situation, saying, “Ramatuelle arrived in good condition, has been training well, and has a good appetite every day. It's certainly disappointing and a bit of a shock for us all, but ultimately, her health and well-being are what's most important. There will be more opportunities at the Breeders' Cup for the stable, and we look forward to those.”
