Tamfana Targets Sandown's Atalanta Stakes After Busy Season
Tamfana Targets Atalanta Stakes: David Menuisier's star filly set for return to mile after promising performances in France, aiming for Sandown spotlight on August 31st.
David Menuisier's talented filly Tamfana is expected to drop back to a mile in preparation for the Atalanta Stakes at Sandown.
As a two-year-old, Tamfana secured two wins, including a dominant nine-and-a-half-length victory in a restricted fillies' maiden at Kempton and a Group Three win in the Prix Miesque at Chantilly.
This season began with a third-place finish in the Prix Imprudence in France, followed by a 33-1 longshot entry in the 1000 Guineas at Newmarket in early May.
Defying those odds, she finished a commendable fourth despite a blocked run in the penultimate furlong, closing in strongly to be just a length behind the winner.
She then tackled the Group One Prix de Diane at Chantilly, finishing even closer in third place, beaten by three-quarters of a length by Sparkling Plenty and Survie – both of whom have since validated the form.
A fourth-place finish in the mile-and-a-half Grand Prix de Paris prompted connections to reconsider her extended trip strategy, likely leading to a return to a mile for her next race.
'Tamfana is likely to come back for the Atalanta Stakes at Sandown on the 31st of August,' stated Menuisier.
'Following that, she will either target the Sun Chariot at Newmarket or the Prix de l'Opera at Longchamp the next day.'
