Once again, the highly awaited rescheduled jumps meeting at Thurles has been called off, this time owing to the ongoing dry weather that continues to affect the track adversely. The event, which had already faced several postponements in recent weeks, was scheduled for Thursday but was found unsuitable for racing following an inspection that confirmed the poor condition of the course.
Lorcan Wyer, the Clerk of the Course for the IHRB at Thurles, conveyed the unfortunate news: “After conducting a morning inspection, it was evident that the Thurles track is still not suitable for jump racing. Regrettably, the event planned for Thursday has been called off.'
The track has been facing challenges due to persistent dry conditions, with very little rainfall recorded over the weekend, and the weather forecast for the days ahead indicates minimal improvement, rendering the surface unfit for competitive racing. Wyer mentioned that, given these circumstances, talks with Horse Racing Ireland will proceed to consider the chance of rescheduling the meeting later in the season.
The recent cancellation is yet another setback for those eager to witness jumps racing at Thurles, a location that has historically been a key part of the Irish racing calendar.
